  1. The Librarian referred to the part of Earth she resided on as ‘Eden’ — a reference to the garden of Eden in Abrahamic religions. The Proto-Gravemind was originally called ‘The Librarian.’ According to 343 Guilty Spark, the Librarian was the only one who could ‘temper’ the Didact’s rage.

Welcome to Holly Lipschultz’s e-Portfolio, presented in partial fulfillment for a Masters in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. The e-Portfolio is designed to highlight my mastery of the fourteen core competencies as outlined by San Jose State University’s School of Library and Information Sciences, and begins with this section, the Introduction, and the Statement of Professional Philosophy which includes an extra competency, Competency O. This is followed by each of the fourteen competencies, the Conclusion, and the Statement of Affirmation.

Each competency is divided into 7 sections. The first section includes the text of the competency, and the second section, the Introduction, describes what I interpret the competency to mean. Competency Development, the third section, delves into my personal experiences relating to the competency, whether it is coursework, work experiences, or a combination of both. In Evidences, I describe the evidences I have included to prove my mastery of the competency, and in the Conclusion, I summarize the key points addressed in the previous sections. Attachments include links to each evidence, and References includes citations if I included any external sources in my descriptions of the competency.

This e-Portfolio also contains my Statement of Professional Philosophy that refers to my experiences and studies, concept of librarianship, and professional goals. This statement includes Competency O, discussing how I “contribute to the cultural, economic, educational and social well-being of our communities.” Finally, the conclusion includes my reflection on my MLIS program and a professional growth plan.

I developed my e-Portfolio over the course of the fall semester of 2012 with the guidance of an adviser, and help and encouragement from numerous classmates. I did not complete it in alphabetical order, but rather worked on competencies as my focus dictated, beginning with A and ending with H. After the competencies were completed, I turned my focus to the “bookends,” the Introduction, Statement of Professional Philosophy, and Conclusion.
